담긴 첫 산문집 『어떤 비밀』이 출판사 난다에서 출간되었다.
경칩에서 우수까지 24절기에 띄우는 편지를 완성하고 각각의 편지에 산문을 더해 꾸렸다.
잔잔한 금능 바다와 넓은 창으로 바라보이는 비양도가 있는 제주 서쪽 옹포리,
그곳의 아담한 로스터리 카페 ‘무한의 서’를 운영하는
연인에게 힘을 보태고 싶어 소설가 최진영은 절기마다 편지를 써서 찾아오는 이에게 전했다.
농사를 지으려면 절기의 흐름을 알아야 하고, 그걸 ‘철을 안다’고
표현했으니 절기를 안다는 건 곧 어른이 된다는 뜻이기도 하겠다.
어른은 어떻게 되는 걸까(한로, 237쪽). 겪어야 할 일은
모두 겪어야 하고 오래 잠을 자더라도 하루를 건너뛸 수는 없고,
그 시간만큼 고통은 미뤄질 뿐일 때.
그렇게 겨울을 품고 견뎌냈기에 오늘의 내가 보통의
하루를 선물받았다는 걸(소한, 331쪽) 작가는 이제 생각할 수 있다.

이 책은 그런 이야기들로 채워져 있다.
오해와 외로움, 착각과 편견, 미움과 그리움, 슬픔과 어리석음,
상처와 회복, 나와 당신, 그 사이를 이어주는 이야기,
그러므로 사랑하는 마음(「작가의 말」, 16쪽).
“당신이 아플 때 나는 왜 아플까. 그 통증이 왜 내 것 같을까.”(소한, 335쪽)
사랑은, 하지 않을 수 있다면 하지 않는 게 좋은 것.
하지만 할 수밖에 없다면 잘하고 싶은 것(소서, 152쪽).
다른 사람을 사랑하고 싶은 게 아니라 한 사람을
다양하게 사랑하고 싶은 마음(우수, 376쪽)일 때 풍경은 늘 같은 자리에서
다른 모습을 보여준다(우수, 382쪽)는 비밀을 이 책은 넌지시 건넨다. 작가는 묻는다.
지난여름, 당신은 어떤 기억을 새로 가지게 되었느냐고.
청명한 가을이 이어질 때면 궁금해진다.
지난여름의 폭우는, 건천을 가득 채우던 빗물은 어디쯤 갔을까(상강, 248쪽).
먼 훗날 당신이 문득 미소 지으며 “그해 여름 기억나?”
하고 물어볼 때 우리의 표정이 닮아 있다면 좋겠다고(백로, 204쪽).
잘 지냈어? 묻는 다정한 그 인사를 오래 그리워하는 마음(「작가의 말」, 17쪽)으로 편지를 띄운다.
